The 'Nip/Tuck' actress revealed her diagnosis earlier this week, and has now said she spent “so much of [her] life” battling with her mental health before she was diagnosed, and now has a greater appreciation for being alive.

She added: "I didn't want to be here. Now I wake up every day and say, 'Thank you, I'm alive again!' ”

The actress also said she feels happy to be able to talk about her diagnosis, as she said she takes issue with DID’s previously terminology, multiple personality disorder.

Speaking to ‘Good Morning America’, she said: "It is not that. You don't have multiple personalities; you have fragments of yourself. There's AnnaLynne, who you're talking to right now, right? Then there's this part of me that this trauma happened to that's still - if you can imagine it as trapped in Pandora's box. And I just opened Pandora's box."

AnnaLynne, 33, spoke about her diagnosis for the first time earlier this week, when she said her career helped bring the condition to light.

She said: "All of my roles were splits, but I didn't even realize I was doing it at all until I did a project, '90210'. "

But it was only when she shot 2012 horror movie 'Excision' during a break from '90210' that she realised something wasn't right.

She explained: "I played a very cerebral, disturbed, strange little girl that was very close to who I feel I am on the inside. It was very exposing, very confronting, probably a bit re-traumatising without realising it.

"The crazy thing about it was that I wrapped that film at 2 a.m. on a Tuesday and had to be happy, crazy Beverly Hills blonde bombshell on Wednesday at noon.

"I couldn't find her, she was not accessible. I was dark, I was very deep into this character Pauline, and I couldn't get [out]."
