Alicia Vikander fell for Michael Fassbender when they spent a month in an isolated lighthouse together.
The 'Danish Girl' star felt "terrified and very alone" when she first arrived on the set of 'The Light Between Oceans' but was immediately put at ease by Michael, 39.
She shared: "He was very sweet at letting me in ... He was like, 'Can you please give me a note? What do you think I should do?' It was such a sweet thing to kind of let me in."
And Michael went on to praise the 27-year-old actress for her "level of commitment" when it comes to her work.
He added to Vanity Fair magazine: "She doesn't take anything for granted. With a lot of these actresses coming out, there's this bravery that you don't see so much in male actors ...
"I noticed this as well with Lupita [Nyong'o] in '12 Years a Slave' - this focus and understanding that there's an opportunity given to you and you grab it ... [Alicia] doesn't mind taking a character she's playing to an ugly place. Her level of commitment made me focus and make sure I was as committed."
Meanwhile, Michael previously revealed he and Alicia had instant chemistry the first time they met.
Alicia said: "We had met at Toronto Film Festival and just on the dance floor."
Whilst Michael added: "I thought [I was a good dancer] until she started dancing and then I felt like I had two left feet. [The chemistry] was sort of there from the beginning."
And Michael gushed about his girlfriend, insisting she is a "very brave and fierce performer".
He shared: "She's a very fierce performer and very brave as you're testing the boundaries for how far you can go. She definitely got a hold of those things. It's impressive to see."
