Alice Cooper has been cast as King Herod in NBC's 'Jesus Christ Superstar Live!'.
The 69-year-old shock rocker has teamed up with British theatre director David Leveaux, a five-time Tony Award nominee who has directed some of the most noteworthy productions in the UK and on Broadway, for show, which will be aired on Easter Sunday, April 1.
'Jesus Christ Superstar Live!' will be executive produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice, Marc Platt, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.
Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, NBC Entertainment, commented:
"Alice Cooper, whose theatricality is the stuff of legend, is the perfect rock star to play Herod in our live production.
"Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice wrote a showstopping musical number for Herod and we all look forward to the 'King of Shock Rock' taking on the King of Judea. As the casting for 'Superstar' ramps up, we can feel the excitement building for this brand new concert experience of what has long been considered the original rock musical."
The 'Poison' hitmaker - who released the album 'Paranormal' in July - has previously starred in 'Dark Shadows' in 2012 alongside his Hollywood Vampires bandmate Johnny Depp, other roles include a cameo in 'Wayne's World' alongside Mike Myers [Wanye Campbell] and dana Carvey [Garth Algar] in 1992.
Alice is renowned for his mind-blowing touring stage shows with his band, which sees him perform alongside his wife Sheryl Cooper.
