Eddie Murphy, Justin Beiber, Tiger Woods and Avril Lavigne. What do they all have in common? All have been at the centre of faked death rumours that spread across the internet over the last year and a half.
After Murphy became the latest celebrity to have a faked death, this time in a snowboarding accident so fictional that it wouldn’t even make its way on to EastEnders, the question raises its head once again. Where the heck do these stories come from?
Well, the answer is incredibly simple in fact; it’s just a prank website. That’s it. Called ‘Fake a Wish’, it’s simply a place where people can put in a name and that’s it, the site will create a series of fake news stories just about that celeb dying in ridiculously over the top ways.
It even makes it look like a really bad news website, usually going under the name Global Associated News. The trouble is that then a reporter looking for the big scoop just won’t bother to think and will spread the completely falsified word.
Due to it being fed by the public, it explains why more divisive celebs are the most frequently hit. Justin Beiber must have died more times that anyone could ever count he has that many haters.
That it’s in horrible taste doesn’t stop to cross anyone’s mind.
So now you have it, the source of all those pesky rumours that clog up your email.
