Summer was the first female artist to chart with back to back multi platinum double albums.
TMZ reports that the singer was currently working on an album and wanted to keep the extent of her illness under wraps.
Not only was she a talented singer, she was also a trained painter and allegedly sold close to a million dollars worth of art.
Not only a legend in music, but also a family person as she had three children, two of which with husband, Bruce Sudano, who she married in July 1980.
