The eagerly anticipated exhibition spanning the life work and career of late fashion designer Alexander McQueen has been unveiled at the Costume Insitute at the Metroploitan Museum of Art.
'Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty' has broken attendance records even in its first few weeks. The work celebrates the unparalled designs and contribution to not only the world of fashion design, but fashion in terms of performance and art.
Almost 200 items are been shown in the exhitibition, which documents the 19 years of Alexander (real name Lee) McQueen's career before he tragically took his own life in February last year.
The show pays homage to the man himself, the commercial work he did but also rarities from his graduate collection at Central St. Martins are shown alongside the work from his unfinished final collection of 2010. It is clearly a dedication to one of the most driving personalities in the contemporary fashion industry.
McQueen was well known for his interesting themes and expressions throughout including everything from an avian theme to looking deep into history to the 18th and 19th centuries for inspiration.
You are never far from spotting a McQueen piece as the best of celebs wear his designs from supermodels in Gisele Bundchen to the pop royalty of Lady Gaga. His lines were inspired, thoughtful and captured the hearts of so many.
The exhibition runs until July 31
