5 Seconds of Summer don't buy each other Christmas presents.
The 'She Looks So Perfect' hitmakers insist they never give each other gifts because they don't want to start a "trend" and have to shell out for birthdays and festive holidays.
Guitarist Michael Clifford told PEOPLE magazine: "We don't want to start the trend. Because if we start the trend, then we have to do birthdays, Christmases - it's better to go without responsibility."
The chart-topping group - which also includes Luke Hemmings, Ashton Irwin and Calum Hood - have had a great year, having released their second album but they are fed up of being labelled a boy band and hope their new music will dispel any preconceptions of them.
They said: "It's like a f**k you to people who say you can't be what you are. And to represent that, I don't think we should carry on asking people not to call us a boy band.
"We learned our instruments, we learned how to write songs from scratch, we love performing live and we love f***ing rocking out - that's what we do, so at this stage, people can call us whatever they want."
Despite wanting to disassociate themselves from the boy band label, the group enjoyed touring with One Direction.
They added: "Their type of music is very different to ours as well. It's a different type of journey, but to see how they've done it and the way they treat their touring crew is something we've learned from."
