The 22-year-old singer and his bandmates Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles have taken a break from the industry after five years as the world's most famous boyband, and Niall is excited about being able to take a break.

Niall said: "I am looking forward to being able to go home and just being able to enjoy the time off.

"I'm looking forward to that - I'm looking forward to just doing nothing,"

As one quarter of One Direction, Niall can rarely go a second without being noticed by fans, but is wondering whether the hiatus will change that.

During a chat on celebrity documentary 'Celebrity Bites', Niall said: "I wonder now in January if I walk down the street will people notice me? Is there a switch that flicks on and off? It probably won't happen at all."

One Direction took over the world when they were formed on UK television talent show The X Factor in 2010 after auditioning as solo singers.

But watching his audition for the programme back, Niall admits he comes across as a "cocky little idiot".

He said: "There's something about [The X Factor boss Cowell] Simon - everyone sees him as this, like, God or whatever. He is the X Factor.

"That's half the reason I was so nervous at my auditions and ended up looking like a cocky little idiot. It was just nerves."
