Business woman, vegan, and Made in Chelsea star, Lucy Watson has been busy this Summer getting involved in new projects with Jobs from Gumtree.
She’s recently teamed up with Gumtree to take part in a Summer work project, which she’s already got involved working with Deliveroo and offered a helping hand with TaskRabbit.
“I just wanted to do something different this summer, and it sounded like a really cool idea” says Lucy, talking about why she decided to get involved in the project.
“It’s been really fun, really insightful, really easy to do and overall enjoyable.”
Lucy admitted she has worked jobs in the past she didn’t enjoy and said the best thing to do if you’re in that position is dive in and make a change.
"Life’s so short - if there’s something out there that you’re really passionate about, that you are qualified for and that you really enjoy, it's best to give it a go.
“There’s so many jobs on Gumtree - if you just get your CV together and apply to as many jobs as you want.”
Statistics from Gumtree revealed that Summer jobs account for an average income of £1,573.60 per season. Whether you're going for a new career direction, or just looking for work during a break from education, there's money to be made by getting your CV out there.
Working on an animal conservation project was named the most desired summer job, whilst being a retail assistant is the most popular.
"It is a daunting process" says Lucy on the topic of applying for jobs. "You've just got to put yourself out there".
Having gained a range of experience throughout her career, Lucy is armed with great tips for applying for jobs.
1) “As well as being professional, most recruiters want to know a bit about your personality. They see so many CVs each day that adding a cover letter or a little ‘about me’ section could make all the difference.
2) “Thinking positive is really key when you’re looking for a job. You might have to apply for quite a few jobs before you find the one that’s perfect for you which can be tiring but stick with it and it’ll be worth it in the end!”
3) “Take a friend for coffee and ask them to play the role of interviewer, asking you the questions you think may come up at your next interview. You may feel a bit silly, but you’ll be so much more prepared for the real deal when it comes round to it – and that’s what friends are for, right?”
Not only has Lucy been busy with her Summer work campaign, she’s also been preparing for the release of her new vegan cookbook.
Lucy’s first cookbook, Feed Me Vegan, was hugely successful, winning ‘Best Vegan Cookbook of 2017’ by PETA.
“It’s amazing - it was my first ever cookbook and it was quite a niche topic when it came out, but it did become a lot more popular.
“I really put everything into the book.”
So what more does the new cookbook have to offer compared to her first?
Lucy says “The new book is full of easy recipes, it’s much more for if you’re into the vegan thing or a little more into cooking and it’s just for all different kinds of occasions. Be it on the go, be it dinner parties, Christmas… all the things you might be stuck on.
"I wanted to make it really accessible and more advanced than the first book."
More and more people are now making the switch to a vegan diet. For those considering making the change it can take some major lifestyle adjustments. There’s a common belief that becoming vegan means you can’t enjoy the same foods and flavours as a non-vegan diet, but Lucy disagrees.
“I don’t think there’s anything that you can’t cover now that’s not vegan - everything tastes so good, you can create really similar flavours.”
Lucy’s new cookbook Feed Me Vegan - For All Occasions is out on September the 6th.
