Manchester’s Chris Green, who is studying at Sheffield University, has just claimed the title of BCS IT Student of the Year at the prestigious Science, Engineering and Technology Awards 2009 in London on Thursday 24th September.
Chris took home the top gong for his eMotion Shuffle project (emotionshuffle.com) which aims to create a pioneering mp3 player that uses the power of music to change and potentially improve the listener’s mood.
The award comes as research from BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, shows that 53% of young people with IT qualifications (post GCSE) remain upbeat about their job prospects in the next year plus a third (32%) of young people anticipate more jobs for IT qualified young people over the next two years.
Significantly, careers in the information technology are also now proving to be as highly rated as those in law and medicine, with four out of five people seeing IT workers as on a par with doctors and lawyers. Half of Brits also feel that IT can change the world (49%) and over three-quarters say IT is a global industry offering careers (77%).
Here to explain the varied and stimulating career opportunities available in the world of IT as well as his winning innovation is last night’s winner, Christopher Green.
Also in the video are shortlisted candidate Sarah Wiseman from Edinburgh University, Professor Dame Wendy Hall of Southampton University and Bill Mitchell, BCS Director, Academy of Computing.
