The VMAs are renowned for having a star-studded line-up. Each year some of the biggest collaborations take to the stage - in the past it's seen the likes of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Madonna perform together, P-Diddy and Sting and not forgetting Beyonce and Jay-Z.
This year, 'Firework' hitmaker Katy Perry is set to kick-start the ceremony on Sunday (28.08.16) at New York's Madison Square Garden, performing her new single 'Rise'.
Katy, 31, is in talks with organisers, who hope she will address her high-profile feud with Taylor Swift. But with Taylor making a 'no-show', there is unlikely to be fireworks between the pair.
A source said: "Katy's been gearing up for her musical comeback for months and this would be the perfect way to launch herself back on the big stage ... Her record label Capitol have backed her by coughing up millions to ensure her new album is her best yet. Given the amount of material she has at her disposal, especially her reaction to Taylor's diss track 'Bad Blood', you can see why it's so highly anticipated."
Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj are set to perform together.
The 'Dangerous Woman' hitmaker and the 33-year-old 'Anaconda' rapper will showcase their new song 'Side by Side'. In a video promoting the show, Ariana says: "When you take the stage at the VMAs you step into another world. It's not just a performance, it's a statement."
The 23-year-old pop beauty has also teased that she will "share [her] voice like it's never been heard before".
Queen Bey, who is nominated for a staggering 11 prizes, is said to be in talks to perform, although nothing has been officially confirmed, she is close to finalising plans.
According to reports, the 34-year-old R&B singer could perform a medley of her hits with a section of the show devoted entirely to her. Failing that, there are plans to have artists perform in tribute to the star.
Beyonce's main competition at the VMAs comes from Adele who has garnered an impressive seven nominations for her third album '25' but it's understood that Adele won't be saying 'Hello' to the VMAs as she's enjoying a rest from her Adele Live Tour.
