Fingers numb with bitter cold
Chilled down to the bone
In hoarfrost glow the wanderer treks
So far his sojourn's grown
So far away his target lies
Yet he's so far from his home
Journeying steadily day by day
Who knows how long he'll roam
The voyage started years ago,
When from his life he turned,
Has drained his strength and his youth
And in his face lines burned
What caused his quest, his endless search
His face would never show
Love, revenge or simple greed
It matters naught you know
None may know this stranger's name
And few have seen his face
But reach his goal he surely will
And end this endless chase
Grey now marks his hair and beard
His eyes a rheumy haze
His steps they falter just a bit
But this trail he must blaze
They found him lying on that trail
His sword clenched in his hand
In his other hand there lay
A smoldering burning brand
All who saw it tell it true
For a smile it lit his face
By his side his enemy lay
For he had won his race
They say he wanders still you know
Over mountain and through dell
Looking, searching endlessly
Perhaps his foe wanders as well.
