I’m a great vegetarian and terrible vegan. I’ve been a vegetarian pretty much forever, and I keep trying to be a vegan, but I don’t live in a very vegan-friendly area, so it can be tough when there’s not a lot of time!
I’m something of a Luddite. I’m actually very good with technology and I don’t mind it in my home, but I generally would rather not use yet another method of communicating with people. So maybe I’m not a Luddite as much as I’m antisocial!
I think I’m a film snob. My family always says I hate everything, but it’s not true. I love lots of films, but I’m pretty particular and my favorites always seem to be the ones no one has heard of. I don’t think I’m a hipster; I just think I look for something very specific in a film and most movies are made for entertainment first and art second.
I’m 100% Team Lannister. The entire series is designed to make readers/viewers root for the Starks, but the Lannisters are actually scapegoated throughout. From the beginning, it’s Lysa Arryn and Baelish colluding to bring down the Lannisters by playing them against the Starks. Plus, I love Cersei for being as strong as she is in such a patriarchal world. If she was male, people would admire her ruthlessness. Instead, because she’s female, she’s called a villain. So she’ll always be my favorite.
I have way too many pairs of Doc Martens. I don’t even wear them much, but I love them and can’t seem to stop buying new versions.
London is my favorite city in the world. There’s really not much to add. It’s just an incredible place.
I love really old books. Literally. I mean, I love old books in the way I love classics, yes, but there’s nothing that makes me happier than being surrounded by the smell of old editions of books. They smell like stories coming through time.
I STOP SOMEWHERE is my first published book, but not the first I’ve written. It’s definitely the most personal, though.
When I travel, the first thing on my list is the art museum in that particular city. Then a bookstore or library!
I play a lot of video games. There are some incredible stories being told in that medium right now!
