My name is Sophie Jenkins, I live in North London with my husband and The Forgotten Guide to Happiness is my first romantic comedy.
I have an astrological twin named Julia. At a Romantic Novelists’ Association meeting I met a writer who is interested in astrology and she said I reminded her of a friend of hers – Julia. It turns out that Julia and I have the same date of birth, (we’re Leos), our lives have followed a similar path and we joined the Romantic Novelists Association at the same time, so there might be something in it…
At three weddings I went to last year, I sat next to three different guests who had looked after monkeys in their lives. What are the chances? So at last I can see the benefits of being put to sit on a table with strangers.
I have discovered I can now only write in the Mint Velvet writing suit which my sister gave me for Christmas.
Every summer we spend a weekend in Cornwall because when my husband was young, he went to Cornwall with his family and they met up with three other families that they became friends with. As adults we have carried on the tradition and now there are three generations of us on the beach, which I think is lovely.
Despite being 1.56 metres tall, I love running. I’m not fast but once I’ve started I keep on going, imagining that to everyone else I’m just a blur.
In school, the only two prizes I ever won were for my stories. What I actually wanted to win prizes for was sport but – see 7, above.
I’m passionate about red lipstick and I really hate it when cosmetic companies stop making the colour I like. Lady Danger by Mac is gorgeous and my current favourite. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
I mentor other writers because of the help I’ve been given myself. It makes all the difference to have support and advice and it’s good to pass knowledge on when you can, with the added bonus that every success is a celebration, and a win for the team.
I write about love because whenever I’m wondering about the meaning of life, love is always the answer.
