As an author, business coach, trainer, facilitator, behavioural change specialist and busy mum of a 5 year old, I believe it is important to connect with others at a personal level. To share who you are, what you stand for and be present in the moment are attributes that stand you in good stead for life.

Having spent the last 20 years working in and with people from all walks of life: from chief executives to charity fundraisers, FTSE 100 teams to media creatives, I notice that those who are most satisfied with their lot are also the most willing to be vulnerable by putting themselves out there. So to be true to these beliefs and experiences here's 10 things I want you, as my reader, to know about me:

  1. Originally from Cornwall I'm now proud to also be a Londoner.
  2. When I commit to something or someone I will do what I say I will do come hell or high water
  3. I took the wrong career path for someone with my personality type for many years believing that I needed a 'proper' job (in finance).
  4. Spreadsheets scare me (which as a qualified auditor is daft!)
  5. I passed my accountancy exams by creating poetry to remember what went on each line.
  6. In the morning getting on a train 30 seconds before it pulls out of the station with a tea in one hand and a croissant in the other makes me really happy. Perfect and efficient use of time!
  7. My passion is to help people take charge in their lives. To decide what they want and find a way to work towards it.
  8. I'm at my best when 'performing' as a trainer or facilitator with a large team or group of people. Secretly I'd love to be on TV and reach a huge audience.
  9. I'm on a mission to banish the word 'should' from the world and change it to 'could'. Shoulds only make you feel bad and coulds mean that you have a choice and so are empowering.
  10. Being married to an ex-Jackaroo and current foodie entrepreneur for the last 19 years is my greatest achievement to date.

Living in a way that is aligned to who you are is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. If you were asked to tell your story or to share 10 things about yourself what would they be? Notice whether they are mostly focussed on your successes, your failures or whether they are simply facts about your life. As you notice whatever it is you notice from your list, know that the stories you tell yourself are what set the tone for your day, your year and your life ultimately. Are yours inspiring you currently or could they do with a bit of a Spring clean? Have fun noticing what you currently tell yourself and be playful in reworking any that don't feel inspiring to you. Some favourites of mine are that I choose to tell myself I'm going to live until I am 120 years old - that way I'm not middle aged until I hit 60! I also choose to believe that anything is possible. It doesn't really matter if that is true or not, it's the energy and attitude it brings to my day that is uplifting.
