As the name suggests, Minimal: How to simplify your life and live sustainably covers everything from decluttering to composting in an effort to live more thoughtfully. A one stop shop if you will of everything you need to know about being kinder to the environment, the animals and yourself.
I have followed Madeleine for a while now on her You Tube channel and what I admire about her the most is that she doesn’t force her ideas on the viewer. She is very clear when she offers her tips and tricks that they won’t work for everyone and that you have to forge your own way once you are equipped with all the information.
The book is of a similar ilk- she takes you through all the ways you can simplify- but it’s up to you which ones fit in with your way of life- she is merely giving you the information to do with what you will. With helpful tables and images, it has never been easier to understand what to do, with what and when if you need a step by step guide.
The book is designed to delve in and out of and is sectioned so you can dip into the areas you are most interested in or that most speak to you. For instance- I found great value in the sections about decluttering, however skipped the pages containing the recipes as I don't enjoy cooking.
For those who prefer to read rather than watch You Tube videos- many of the topics from Madeleine’s visual offerings are covered in the book so you won’t miss out if you enjoy one medium over the other.
I’m sure many of her fans will have already bought the book, however if you are new to the concept of living a pared down existence- this is a great place to start.
The book goes into just enough detail to whet your appetite and once you realise which parts fit in best with you- you can read into these areas in more depth elsewhere.
Madeleine’s book is an extension of her beautiful self and would make the ideal gift for someone who is seeking out an uncomplicated life.
