1. My college friends and I have gotten together for a reunion weekend every year since 1997. (Until 2020 sidelined us!) The seven of us first met while living together at the University of Michigan, and we now live in five different states across the U.S. Despite the distance separating us, our careers, kids, spouses, etc., we’ve managed to make the get-togethers work. We usually take turns hosting at one of our houses.
2. I worry my friends will no longer invite me reunion weekends after reading The Lake House. My newest psychological thriller is a tale of a women’s reunion weekend gone murderously wrong as long-buried secrets rise to the surface. (Eeek!) All of the characters are purely fictional, of course.3. I often forget how old I am. (I just checked, and I’m 47.) I think one reason I forget my age is because I’m continually writing characters of different ages and placing myself in their shoes. On any given day, I could be a twenty-two-year-old or an eighty-three-year-old. They say a reader lives a thousand lives. Well, so does a writer! Another reason for “forgetting” my age might be denial.
4. The first book I fell in love with as a child was Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I think I read the entire series in a week. I loved pretending that my backyard was the wild, open prairie, that I lived in a log cabin, and that my dog was a horse. (I’m not sure how much my dog appreciated that!) Today, I read mainly psychological suspense/thrillers, but I still enjoy historical fiction.
5. I make a point to do something active every day. Exercise is essential to me because I spend so many hours a day sitting motionless in front of my laptop while writing. My latest craze is virtual boot camp, which I do at least two or three times a week from the comfort of my living room. I also enjoy running, tennis, nature hikes, and cardio kickboxing. Occasionally, my family ropes me into a game of driveway basketball.
6. We have a large pond in our backyard. The pond provides constant entertainment, especially in the last year when we’ve spent so much time at home. This past summer, we even kayaked on it. (Lots of circles!) Most recently, my kids have been using it as an ice rink. In warmer weather, we enjoy watching the tadpoles develop into frogs or spying on the turtles sunning themselves and the Great Blue Herons that swoop down to eat the plants and sea life.
7. I live in Michigan, which is where I grew up. I have also lived in downtown Chicago (ten years), Colorado (two years), and Spain (one summer.) So far, all of my books have been set in the midwest because I’m most familiar with this area. Someday, I plan on setting one of my books in Bora Bora or the Galapagos Islands so that I can go on one heck of a “research” trip!

About The Lake House
I thought of the long history with my friends—the lies, the slights, the betrayals, and the five-year gap since our last get-together. Five of us had arrived at this desolate cabin. Now, only three of us remained.
It was supposed to be the perfect vacation: a secluded cabin by a private lake; late nights, wine and laughter. Megan hasn’t had time for herself since her second child was born, and she knows her friends need a break too—Jenna from her demanding job, Charlotte from marital problems and Kaitlyn and Sam from busy families. Between all their commitments Megan was afraid this trip would never happen, and she needs the comfort and familiarity of her oldest friends now more than ever.
They have known each other since college—there are no secrets between them.
But things change in the woods. As they reminisce, bad memories as well as good are dragged up, and old wounds are reopened. It seems not everyone remembers those college years as fondly as Megan, and a trip planned to bring them back together might just drive them apart for good.
Someone has been hiding a lie for over twenty years. And now lives are in danger.Gripping, addictive and totally unputdownable, The Lake House will have you wanting to sleep with the lights on.
Perfect for fans of The Girl on the Train, The Woman in the Window and Big Little Lies.
