I have worked in a variety of industries, from the Inland Revenue to running two successful businesses (a wholesale gift company and a nail salon) and working in the travel industry. I was even lucky enough during my time in travel, to be a passenger on the very first Tri Star flight to Sicily.
Running a nail salon resulted in the storyline for my debut novel. One of my regular clients suggested a well-known local clairvoyant called Val visit the salon and give readings. Her visit and readings gave me the idea for a story incorporating elements of the clairvoyant gift. I wrote the outline of the story on a scrap of paper and brought it to life over the last two years.
I like to think I am a positive person - most of the time, and surround myself by like-minded people, but I have a variety of friends with mixed personalities and they all seem to bring something different to our relationship, which is great fun!
I believe everyone has a gift, something they excel at, even if it doesn’t surface immediately, it will later in life. You’ve just got to keep searching!!
I enjoy baking unusual celebration cakes, with somewhat of a success. Also looking after my young grandchildren, they are such fun and a great joy. The things they come out with are priceless!!
I married my first high school boyfriend, having known him from the age of eleven. We stayed married for a very long time and had two wonderful children, and two delightful young grandchildren. Sadly I lost my husband nearly two years ago and I miss him very much.
I have found my true passion in writing. If I could make ten people happy after reading my novel and stir their emotions enough to want to read the second, I would be very happy. I prefer to write in the genre of an uplifting mystery thriller, rather than a dark and scary story. This fiction I would happily leave to the likes of Dean Koontz and the Stephen Kings of this world!
I have had three Airedale dogs. The first was Toby, large and affectionate. He used to hurl himself at the front door when the postman arrived!! The second was Gemma, the runt of the litter. She was placid but stood her ground. And then there was Tessa; ‘Mad as a Hatter’, but lovely in her own way. Great family dogs!!!
I took up ice skating at the age of 47 My first venture onto the ice saw me not letting go of the barrier for ten minutes!! I did achieve moderate success and can relate to the competitors on ‘Dancing on Ice’ – it’s more difficult than it looks!!
You never know in which direction life will take you. Having this in mind I added an old Chinese proverb to one of the initial pages of my book:
‘All the flowers of all the tomorrows
Are in the seeds of today’
This probably says it all!!!
