The Loveliest Chocolate Shop in Paris is a book about two women: Anna, who is injured in an accident and takes a job in Paris to go and heal, and Claire, her old French teacher, who worked there a long time ago. Their two stories interweave, along with a fabulous, magical chocolate shop.
Please give us some insight into the character of Anna Trent.
Anna is bright and bolshy and didn't really pay attention at school and feels trapped in her life. It never occurs to her that she could move to another country, I think she surprises herself as much as the reader when she does. The book is really about trying new things and spreading your wings.
Why did you decide to set the book in Paris?
I set the book in Paris because it's so beautiful and wonderful and romantic, and still full of tiny little amazing shops that sell individual things, it's not all chain stores.
Many of your books are centred around sweet treats, so why is this?
Because I consider something sweet and a big cup of tea to be very good companions to reading! And I just follow my own interests, really, I love chocolate. It was great fun to immerse myself in that world.
Why did you decide to include recipes in this book?
Because I describe so much of the food I am working with, it's nice if people want to replicate what I'm writing about!
What is your favourite type chocolate?!
I am quite unfussy, but I have a special fondness for Fry's plain chocolate cream, the one in the navy wrapper.
