Serenity takes a backseat to the hero
Lost within his confused mind.
There isn’t a friend anywhere
That understands his kind.
A shattered resemblance of his plan
That began within a dream.
A woman told him once he was everything
As part of a devious scheme.
He was incapable of dealing
With this type of betrayal.
A woman is thought to love a man
Forever is the portrayal.
When it didn’t go as planned
He rushed to get a weapon.
Breaking her heart wouldn’t do;
Not for such a heathen.
He walked out the door with a shield
To protect his bitter heart.
Finding her would ease the anger
And provide him a new start.
He walked the path she took
With breakdowns along the way.
Once, he fell to his knees
Crying “why didn’t she stay?”
When he reached her home
It was very late at night.
Afraid to knock on the door
He waited for the light.
She walked out of the house
Stood on the porch.
He gathered courage to confront her
But realized she carried the torch.
He had very deep feelings for her
Too many to ignore.
His anger took a backseat to logic
He wouldn’t touch her, he swore.
Back home he sat and wrote
Became a famous poet.
Writing sonnets of love about her
Though she didn’t know it.
Many times she read what he wrote
And thought he had found a lady.
Sometimes she wished it were her,
But she knew at the time she wasn’t ready.
The day she died he wrote to her
A sonnet about a bird.
That took to flight to save a life
Just like he did for her.
