Finishing Christmas shopping by mid-December. Ha, if only! I’m that panicky person who runs from shop to shop on Christmas Eve, desperately searching for a dad-suitable present. Why are men so hard to buy for?
Not one single flake of snow. I know, I know… a blanket of crisp, white snow makes the world sparkle and adds to the festive vibe. But I need to travel to see some family members over Christmas, and driving in snow gives me the heebie-jeebies.
The Radio Times. Who doesn’t love Christmas telly? I grab a pen and circle everything I intend (but never quite manage) to watch. When I was growing up, ‘mustn’t miss’ festive telly was Top of the Pops on Christmas Day. Now, it’s the Strictly final.
A good sing-song. You can’t beat belting out O Come All Ye Faithful at a carol concert, or warbling along to Wham!’s Last Christmas while basting the turkey.
Fairy lights. Everything looks better in the soft glow of fairy lights, including me. Fairy lights shouldn’t be just for Christmas.
Taking a writing break. Just for a couple of days, as long as there are no urgent editing deadlines looming. It helps to recharge my batteries.
My family and friends. Of course. Christmas could never be complete without them.
