It doesn’t seem five minutes since New Moon had all the twi-hards rushing to the nearest cinema but Twilight fever has once again gripped the globe with the release of Eclipse, the third movie in the series.
As Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner return to their characters of Edward Cullen, Bella Swan and Jacob Black there is a new director at the hem as David Slade takes over the project.
As Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger.
In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob - knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf.
With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death. But which is which?
Ok for anyone who is not a fan of the books and hasn’t liked the two movies that have gone before this then chances are you are not going to find too much to like about Eclipse, however it is a huge step up from the disappointing New Moon.
Director David Slade does find a good balance between action and romance, but the battle, which is the climax of the movie, is a little disappointing.
The central three actors of Pattinson, Stewart and Lautner do seem much more comfortable with their characters and it is the best acting performance from the three.
While I’m still not convinced of the chemistry between Pattinson and Stewart, despite the fact that they are playing lovers, the relationship between Stewart and Lautner is very good.
Another interesting relationship is that between Edward Cullen and Jacob Black as they both fight it out for Bella’s affection and the banter between the pair is top notch, and provides much of the comedy.
It’s great to see the back stories of both Jasper and Rosalie as their characters do become more rounded but once again Emmet, Carlisle and Esme are once again largely overlooked.
For all the Twihard fans Eclipse is fast paced ride that is filled with romance, action and humour while for the rest of the world it’s the best movie in the series so far.
