To mark its 70th anniversary, the world’s leading children’s publisher and most iconic brand in children’s books has drawn up a list of the 70 best-ever books for children.
The lists showcase the best Puffin books of all time, from babies through to teens, and form a child’s essential reading library.
The 70 titles are split into categories ranging from the Best Mischief and Mayhem, Weird and Wonderful, Sugar and Spice to the Best Swashbucklers and Derring-Do, Books to Cuddle-Up With and even the Best Alternatives to Twilight.
The top 70 books include timeless classics such as Watership Down and Charlotte’s Web (Best Weepies), The Borrowers (Best Friends and Family), Alice in Wonderland (Best Weird and Wonderful) and The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank (Best War and Conflict).
Roald Dahl, who sells more books every year than any other Penguin author across both adults and children’s, is allocated an entire category (Best Phizzwhizzers).
The Best Books to Cuddle-up With include the phenomenally popular The Very Hungry Caterpillar which still sells one copy every 30 seconds somewhere in the world, day and night.
As part of the 70th anniversary celebrations, the lists have been released to coincide with National Puffin Share-a-Story Day being celebrated across the UK on the 8th May.
Hundreds of schools, bookshops and libraries nationwide will be marking the day by hosting Puffin parties using the Puffin party pack available to download at www.puffin.co.uk.
