McFly autobiography

Winner of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! Dougie Poynter revealed how he tried to kill himself in the latest autobiography released this month.

The member and bass player of Mc Fly told of how he tried to kill himself in his car following his break up from Frankie Sandford following a stint of alcohol abuse.

In the band's new autobiography Unsaid Things... Our Story, it explains how low he resulted in this drastic move to end his life.

The low point was a result of the band being unsatisfied with the way their careers were going and he had hinted that they should separate. In 2010 both he and Frankie separated as his drinking habit was at its worst. He said in the book that found he was not able to talk to anyone and that his drinking was unmanageable and he felt the only way to fix it was to end his life.

As many suicidal people report, if they do not go through with it, that the act can grasp back the feeling of control they have lost in their life and that once they have made their decision it can be a huge weight off their shoulders. Poynter hinted having some of these feelings in the book.

Poynter, came to realise that his efforts were not working; however he still cannot understand why it didn’t work. He went to the band's doctor following his failed attempts and then was advised to go and see a counsellor. He then followed with a stint in rehab at the Priory Clinic.

After his rehabilitation, he went on to take part in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! last autumn and won the series.
