After a long wait we have fianlly been allowed to see the front cover of JK Rowling's new adult novel, A Casual Vacancy. The novel is about Barry Fairbrother, who suddenly dies in his early 40's. The cover is of a ballot paper as there is election held in the town of Pagford to fill the seat in the Parish Council that Fairbrother has sadly left behind. Pagfold is the archetypal English town with cobbled streets and an abbey, however the town is suffering from ongoing conflict between all of its residents. The idyllic surroundings mask the underlying problems that have plagued the town for years. The empty seat at the parish council is the beginnig of a war that the town is not prepared for nor has ever encountered before, that of an election.
Fans of Rowling only have to wait another 3 months before they can read her new novel, which sees her debut into adult fiction. The novel is vastly different to Harry Potter, but given the success of her previous books (450 million in sales), it is fair to anticupate that this will be a popular book. Whether it be from fans of her writing style, interest in how she has embarked upon adult fiction, or those just wanting a good read!
A Casual Vacancy is out on 27th September 2012.
