As the release of the new Baz Luhrman’s film adaptation of the book on December 26th looms near, isn’t it about time we all familiarised ourselves with the original text?! To give a brief overview of the book by F. Scott Fitzgerald; Jay Gatsby is someone who has everything he could possibly want, however he is missing the one thing that will always be inaccessible to him. His mansion in Long Island plays host to the biggest and best known names in society, dancing and drinking. All the while Gatsby waits on by, an outsider. To the untrained eye, masked by his lifestyle, he manages to keep a secret, something that he can never obtain and as he becomes obsessed, his perfect world begins to unfold.
It is considered to be the best novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and exposes the jazz age during the 1920s. It is a classic in American Literature derived from the period after the First World War and is said to be one of the greatest novels of the twentieth century. The reader is carried through the novel by the narration of Nick Carraway and comes across Nick’s cousin Daisy and her husband, also wealthy, Tom Buchanan and centres around the mystery of the aforementioned character Jay Gatsby.
The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Toby Maguire, Carey Mulligan and Joel Edgerton and is set to add a little sparkle to our Christmas party this year. Show More
