Luxembourg, 23rd July, 2012: New research released by Amazon.co.uk, reveals the average Brit uses around 1kg of their 20kg baggage allowance with three books every holiday. That extra weight is equivalent to three bottles of sun cream, an extra pair of shoes or a hairdryer, meaning precious holiday essentials are left behind. In addition, with many airlines imposing strict baggage restrictions, tipping the scales with an extra kilogram of books could rack up an excess baggage charge of up to £40.
The research also revealed two thirds (66%) of people consider books to be the holiday entertainment essential, compared to everyday gadgets such as MP3 players (36%), smartphones (32%) and more traditional options such as a pack of cards (27%).
According to the research, nearly three quarters (72%) of people take more than one book on holiday.
