Up to 20 children, including star Azharuddin Ismail M. Shaikh, who appeared in Slumdog Millionaire have lost their homes after they were demolished.
The children and their families were thrown out of their homes yesterday by Mumbai civic authorities before nearly 50 huts were demolished.
Azharuddin said that the team from the authorities came unannounced yesterday morning and ordered them to leave the shanties in Garib Nagar slum of Bandra East.
He said: "We have nowhere to go. We are just sitting on the road in the blazing sun right now. All our belongings and other household goods have either been thrown out or damaged. We don't know what we will eat today."
Some of the families may be provided with alternative accommodation before the monsoon which is expected to hit Mumbai early next month.
Azharuddin will be hoping now more than ever that the house's promised to him by the film makers will be made soon.
