Katrina Kaif is to do more in her new film, after recent developments meant she was in demand to do more that a mere item number in Shree Ashtavinayak's, Blue.
A source insider in the Blue unit said to one India:"Initially, Katrina was only supposed to do an item song but going by her market viability, the film's makers have increased her role in Blue to a special appearance. Katrina shot for her extended role for 10 days in Bangkok last year."
They also went on to suggest that Katrina's role expansion is being kept under wraps for now because of Blue's other main star, Lara Dutta.
"It was a hush-hush shoot in Bangkok where the makers didn't want anyone to know that she was shooting. Everything is being kept a secret as they don't want Lara to know. Apart from the scenes, Katrina will also be doing a hot item song with Akshay which will be shot on a grand scale."
Apparently it was Bollywood Katrina's glamour, success ration and chemistry with co-star Akshay Kumar that landed her a bigger role.
"Apart from giving six hits, Katrina is endorsing almost 10 big brands. And in this industry, brand and market value go hand in hand. Studio 18 and UTV want to sign her on, too. Also, in Blue, Katrina's paired opposite Akshay; the duo are a much-loved screen pair much like the Shahrukh-Kajol jodi!
"The producer and director (Anthony D'Souza) might have increased Katrina's role to cash in the pairing. Incidentally, Ratan Jain's De Dhana Dhan, which has Akshay and Katrina together got sold on a high price because of their pairing."
However Katrina chooses to deny that her role's been increased. She says, "My role hasn't increased. I always had a three-day scene and am shooting for the item song soon. I didn't shoot for 10 days but for just one day in Bangkok."
Ashtavinayak's spokesperson says, "Katrina's role hasn't been increased. She is doing exactly what was narrated to her right from the beginning - a song and two scenes."
