Veteran actress Shabana Azmi is putting together a fund-raising fashion show along with her godchild Namrata Goyal for the education of girls in the tiny village of Mijwan in India.
Mijwan is the birthplace of her father, one of the greatest Urdu poets of all time, the late Kaifi Azmi. Kaifi was the founder of Mijwan Welfare Society (MWS) in 1993. The society works for the empowerment of the villagers espically young girls. Before his death Kaifi had opened: Kaifi Azmi High School for girls, Kaifi Azmi Inter College for girls, Kaifi Azmi Computer Training Center and Kaifi Azmi Sewing and Tailoring Center.
After he passed away on the 10th of May 2002, Shabana carried her fathers dream forward to continue to improve the rural village and so far she done an incredible job.
The fashion show which is scheduled to take place on the 23rd of January will be filled with Bollywood's finest as they get involved with the event. Some of the big names include: Shilpa Shetty, Karan Johar, Hrithik Roshan, Ranbir Kapoor, Sushmita Sen, Dia Mirza and Lara Dutta.
Shabana said on Bollywood Chaska: “All the stars I approached have come on board, no questions asked. They are role models and when they throw their weight behind a cause it leads to immense awareness on the issue. This is going to be the most phenomenal fashion show ever."
