Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan appeared in court in Uttar Pradesh, India
yesterday (05Jun07) to fight for his right to be recognised as a farmer.The veteran actor was last week (ends01Jun07) ruled to have forged a 1983
certificate identifying him as a farmer.But he today lodged his appeal, in a bid to keep a 20 acre farm in western
Maharashtra. Agricultural land in the state is only allowed to be owned by
legitimate farmers.The court has heard how Bachchan allegedly used political contacts -
including his politician wife - to be designated as a farmer.The appeal will begin on Thursday (07Jun07).
