Vladimir Putin is now travelling in a specially-made armoured train.

The paranoid Russian tyrant won't use his usual Flying Kremlin plane as he is said to be frightened of being tracked and shot out of the sky.

Elaborate measures have been taken to protect Putin's safety since the start of the war with Ukraine but he remains anxious and will only take to the railways camouflaged in grey and red to make it look like a typical Russian passenger train.

The Russian leader's train has radio antennae for special communications fixed to the roof of certain carriages and has been upgraded to be more secure.

Regular trains are halted to allow the Putin locomotive to speed to its destinations.

The Russian president rarely admits to using the train in public and has not been photographed on it for more than a decade.

Putin's former KGB contemporary Yury Shvets suggested that Putin is also anxious about the "meat grinder" struggle for power inside the Kremlin.

He said: "It looks like he fears for his life.

"Around him there is a struggle, a meat grinder. And in the struggle, Putin can very easily end his existence. So he has isolated himself again."

Shvets also claimed that the warmonger could be poisoned by his enemies.

He told Ukrainian outlet gordonua.com: "Poisons have run rife under Putin, as a key weapon against his enemies. Poison is the weapon of complete villains. This is what has flourished under him.

"They couldn't keep it under unified control. And who now has this weapon, even he does not know. This is a source of very great stress for him.

"Quite likely he will be poisoned. This is the easiest way."
