The 'world's largest potato' has been ruled as a gourd following a DNA test.
Colin and Donna Craig-Brown discovered the oversized fruit in their garden at home in New Zealand last August and believed that they would be recognised by the Guinness World Records for the 7.9kg item which they named Dug.
However, a DNA test by Scottish Agriculture showed that the specimen was actually a gourd - a fruit found with a hard shell that cannot usually be eaten.
Colin was "disappointed" that his record-breaking dream has died but is still determined to make history with his potatoes.
He told Stuff: "I'm disappointed, but he's still Dug - not the biggest potato.
"It's been a real rollercoaster of potato-rama. We hoped on the rollercoaster eyes wide open and enjoyed the ride and this was the last real twist.
"It's inspired me to grow my potato and really get stuck in. Draw on all the knowledge and scientific know-how that I've accumulated through the process with all the experts.
"I'm really gonna give it my all and have a go at growing the biggest potato in the world."
