Elena Andreassen Haga and her son Eliah was walking along a beach in the town Gasvaer when they came across a bottle with a note inside.

Upon opening it, they found it was written in 1995 by a girl called Joanna Buchan - as a part of a school project -and thrown from a fishing boat just off Peterhead, roughly 800 miles where it eventually landed.

The note contained Joanna’s thoughts and feelings about her dog, toys and “rather big house” and how much she loathed boys as the letter concluded: “by the way, I hate boys”

Elena found the note in 2020 and reached out to Joanna on Facebook, however Joanna only just found the message request.

Joanna - who is now a doctor in Australia - told BBC Scotland: "I vaguely remember doing a message in a bottle at Peterhead Central School that we sent off Peterhead in 1996” but when she re-read it she “died laughing” and wished she could tell her teachers about it.
