A woman was hospitalised three times after she was bitten by a spider while sitting on the toilet.
Jo Kenyon was bitten by the insect - which is believed to have been a false widow - when it nipped her on the thigh when she was on the loo at her home in Leeds.
Kenyon flushed the arachnid away but called medics and was told to go straight to hospital amid concerns that the bite could become infected.
A giant blister formed under the bite marks which doctors had to pop and the radio producer required two more visits to hospital to have the mass drained.
Kenyon said: "The doctors said that if I hadn't come in straight away then the bite could have led to sepsis and possibly killed me.
"It was really painful to walk for the first few days and then it hurt for weeks whenever I tried to sit down.
"I've been terrified of spiders all my life. Given that everyone knows how bad I am with spiders and how far I go to avoid them, most people's response was that it could only happen to me!"
