Helen Reed was shocked to discover the spud as she tucked into a bag of cheese and onion crisps but hasn't been put off by her bizarre find.

Describing the potato's appearance, Reed told Metro.co.uk: "It was quite a decent size, it was a bit bigger than a golf ball.

"The potato was soggy and squishy and smelled a bit funny. I didn't eat any of them as they were all soggy."

Reed, who hails from West Yorkshire, contacted the REAL crisps brand about her discovery and was sent a box of different flavours as an apology.

She said: "It's quite funny the brand's called REAL as well. You can't get realer than a potato in a bag of crisps.

"It's not put me off, I just found it funny - things happen. It could have been a lot worse, at least it was a potato."
