AI could soon be doing all human jobs.
Expert Nick Bostrom has claimed that artificial intelligence will be "the last invention" the human race ever needs to make as "pretty much" every task could end up becoming automated - changing the world beyond recognition.
Bostrom, the director of the Future of Humanity Institute at Oxford University, said: "The development of machine super intelligence will be the last invention we ever need to make.
"If we really did have machines that were better than all cognitive labour than the human brain is then that would include in particular the task of making further inventions."
The Swedish academic argues that the only jobs that could be safe are roles "where consumers have a direct preference that the job be done by humans".
He explained: "There are also certain things like a cleric - maybe people just want a wedding ceremony officiated by a human being.
"By setting aside these exceptions, I think all functionally defined tasks would be done cheaper and more efficiently and to a higher standard of machine."
