A wild big cat has been spotted in Islip.
Local residents, police and animal rescue groups have all claimed to have seen a wild animal on the loose in the town in New York state.
Reports of a big cat roaming around the area first came into Suffolk County Police in the early hours of Tuesday morning (26.07.22) .
When police arrived in Boulevard Avenue, West Islip, the big cat, believed to be a Siberian lynx by local residents, was gone.
Frankie Floridia, President of the Strong Island Animal Rescue League, said: "We’re working together with the SPCA and the authorities to get him safely to a sanctuary.
“We have several people in my complex that go to work around 4 a.m. and plenty of families with children. Now I’m looking both ways to take out the garbage.”
Islip homeowner Diane Huwer called the rescue organization around 9am on Tuesday after she snapped a photo of a big cat walking around on her porch.
