An optical illusion of a 'floating' wheelie bin has caused confusion on social media.

An image was shared on Reddit showing a grey bin seemingly hovering over a pavement.
Sharing the picture on Twitter, one person asked: ''Do you also see this bin floating?''
A second puzzled user added: ''Yep. I saw a floating bin. Stay safe everyone.''
However, the images was soon debunked as an optical illusion caused by the position of the bin to a wet patch of concrete, which made it seem as though it was floating.
Describing the theory, one user said: ''A nice example of how we infer position from what we presume to be a cast shadow.''
Another poster wrote: ''It looks like a floating garbage bin. But it was actually just a wet spot on the pavement.''
