Kelly Philpin, the owner of 'Hank Marvin' in Llanddewi Velfrey, was approached because the usual polling station is being repaired, and she was ''happy to help''.

She said: ''The council approached us about putting it in our chip shop. We have a restaurant there, so were happy to help despite it being an unusual location.''

Meanwhile, constituents in Oxfordshire will be voting at the local pub, although landlord Reintr Heckem is not allowed to vote as he is a German national.

He added: ''It's important to have polling stations, but it's very strange for me because I'm the landlord, but I'm German and I'm not allowed to vote.

''I have to apply for a dual nationality to vote, but I don't want to give up my German passport.''
