Working out for just three seconds a day can make a person fitter.
A new study shows that exercising regularly for just a brief amount of time is often better than working out rigorously once or twice per week.
Repeating the micro-sessions for five days a week is enough to significantly build up muscles.
Experts at Edith Cowan University in Western Australia found that slowly lowering a heavy dumbbell from a bent arm to a straight arm led to a major improvement in muscle strength.
Professor Ken Nosaka, the university's director of exercise and sport science, said: "Our work has shown that regular, shorter exercise is more beneficial than one or two big training sessions in a week.
"Muscles do appear to like to be stimulated more frequently."
