Only three out of 60 people who registered to take part in a fart contest turned up.
Yatin Sangoil, the organiser of the event in Gujarat's Surat in India, has revealed that many appeared to have backed out at the last minute due to shyness as they had invited several members of the media to record the contest.
He said: ''The participants were reluctant to go on stage as they were possibly shy and had inhibitions due to the presence of news channels, photographers, people etc.
''We had even roped in a firm to build a special device to measure the fart parameters.''
The winners were judged on having the ''longest'', ''loudest'' and ''most musical'' trumps.
However, he has not given up hope of finding the biggest rippers in the country, as Sangoli told NDTV.com that he wants to hold the competition in Mumbai next year.
