Antonio Romero Monteiro has broken the Guinness World Record for his astonishing collection of 24,268 games across various platforms.

Monteiro started his collection as a 10-year-old back in 1987 and the vast haul is now worth $2.1 million

He uses an app to keep track of the games he owns but the sheer quantity means he has not had time to play them all.

Monteiro, who found out about his record-breaking feat during a work meeting, said: "Originally my collection focused on purchasing and repurchasing some of the games I played in my youth.

"I see video games as a form of art, where creativity and storytelling transcend to limitless possibilities.

"Each generation of video games systems gives further potential to realise creativity and share boundless stories, challenges, and experiences.

"Some of my most precious memories include video games and their experiences with family and friends."
