A surgeon has been sacked for letting her teenage daughter drill into a patient's skull

The unnamed medic is said to have guided her 13-year-old daughter step-by-step through the procedure at University Hospital Graz, Austria, in January.

She allegedly even allowed the child to drill into the skull of the 33-year-old patient, who needed emergency surgery after sustaining a head injury in a forest accident.

The patient only discovered the truth about his surgery when informed of the details by police afterwards and his lawyer Peter Freiberger has revealed that he plans to pursue legal action against everyone involved in the procedure.

He said: "The operation and the drilling were necessary, that is beyond dispute for us. But it's a question of letting a 13-year-old do something like that."

Freiberger questioned the hospital's management and argues that everybody in the operating theatre was responsible as they had the chance to stop the teenager from being involved.

He added: "There was no contact, no explanation or apology, nothing. That is simply undignified."
