Human contact with aliens is "inevitable", according to the president of UK Space.

Dr. Alice Bunn thinks it is a question of when rather than if in terms of the human race encountering extraterrestrials, although she does think that the little green men could make the initial contact.

Dr. Bunn is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: "Will we find aliens or will they find us?

"I think it's inevitable. Statistically there is likely to be life out there."

NASA suffered a setback this week when it had to abort a moon landing of the Peregrine spaceship, which was carrying the ashes of 'Star Trek' legends, but Dr. Bunn explained that there is a lot to be learned from things going wrong in orbit.

She said: "Space missions are hard but what's really interesting about them is they are exquisitely engineered. We are pushing every material to its limit.

"When a mission has been successful, you see it's arrived, hurrah! You don't hear of all the near misses along the way. In this mission they will have been able to test out and demonstrate a whole load of stages."
