Astrophysicist Jessie Christiansen says that the Habitable Worlds Observatory (HWO) - a telescope that will be launched by NASA in the 2040s - will uncover the truth about extraterrestrials.

Scientists are optimistic that the telescope will find 25 Earth-like planets around sun-like stars.

Dr. Christiansen, from the California Institute of Technology, said: "The bubble of space we've managed to search around our sun is very small compared to the size of our galaxy.

"I believe, in our lifetime, something like HWO will see a signal in the atmosphere of a planet in the habitable zone of a star like our sun that we think is life."

However, the expert thinks the alien revelations will rock the human race when they emerge.

She said: "It might start a revolution in life, religion, philosophy and science."
