Sharing a bed with your dog has several health benefits.
Animal expert Dr. Jacqueline Boyd explained that snoozing with a pooch can "offer companionship, security and even warmth" - as long as a person is hygienic.
The animal sciences lecturer from Nottingham Trent University says that snuggling up to a furry friend in bed brings "improved health, social contact and decreased perceptions of loneliness".
Over 80 per cent of canines prefer being close to a human at night, suggesting that there is a "mutual benefit" to sleeping with an animal.
Dr. Boyd said: "With good hygiene and management, the choice to share your sleep with your pet might just give you both a great night's sleep."
The boffin also argues that there is no reason for humans not to sleep with cats and other pets.
Dr. Boyd explained: "Different species also appear to spend time resting together.
"So if you have a multi-pet household, all might enjoy shared sleeping."
