Joe Biden doubted that Russia had fired a missile at the Polish border

A spokesperson for the Kremlin's defence ministry told Russia's state-owned RIA news agency that its strikes on Tuesday (15.11.22) were no closer than 22 miles from the Polish border.

They claimed that images from the site showed the wreckage to be that of a Ukrainian S-300 missile.

The missile hit a grain silo in the village of Przewodow and US President Joe Biden had cast doubt on claims that the weapon was fired by Moscow.

Speaking after a meeting with NATO and G7 leaders, Biden said: "There is preliminary information that contests that.

"I don't want to say that until we completely investigate it, but it is unlikely in the lines of the trajectory that it was fired from Russia, but we'll see."

Poland's president Andrzej Duda has said that the missile blast appears to have been an "unfortunate accident" rather than an "intentional attack".

Russia accused some Western countries of reacting "hysterically" to the missile strike and making "baseless statements" about the country's involvement.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters: "We have witnessed another hysterical, frenzied Russophobic reaction, which was not based on any real data.

"Such a frenzied reaction shows that there is never a need to rush to judgement, with statements that can escalate the situation. Especially at such crucial moments."
