Roger Taylor sparked fears of an alien invasion after he put on a light show at his birthday party.
The legendary Queen drummer's 40th birthday bash led to a surge in calls to the emergency services about strange sightings in the sky.
Taylor had hired a sky-tracker, a powerful quadruple spotlight that was scanning the heavens. He had to get permission from the Civil Aviation Authority to use it as planes needed to be warned in case they mistook it for landing lights.
The story is told in 'Queen: As It Began' - a new biography about the iconic rock band.
It reads: "People were jumping into their cars and driving to the sources of lights, believing that aliens were landing.
"It caused chaos as many, still in their nightclothes, parked their cars on the busy main road and made a dash across the carriageway.
"He had no problem with planes - but local police, and forces in the next county, had their switchboards overloaded with thousands of calls from worried people."
