Adams County animal rescuers at Wildlife Works were unsure if the animal brought their attention was merely a pooch needing shelter from the cold or something else, like a wild coyote.

After being treated for mange, breaking free from its cage and having a DNA sample sent to a lab, the animal was determined to be the wild animal.

They wrote on Facebook: “The results are in! Our "mystery animal" DNA sample came back, 100% coyote! Thank you again to everyone who has supported us and followed this story. We are so thankful!”

According to officials, the coyote has not been seen since he burst from his cage and out the window.
